"My goal is to immerse myself in an animal's world so that I can extract from those moments a new image, or a new insight into behaviour heretofore unseen. I become the creature I pursue, in theory anyway..." Bill Curtsinger's beautiful photography in "Extreme Nature" is the result of a sensitive, fascinating approach to the aquatic environment. The reader accompanies him on a journey around the globe, plumbing the depths around icebergs and volcanoes, from the Arctic to Antarctica, meeting sharks, sea turtles, seals, narwhals, and whales, among many others, along the way. Not only does the author share his wondrous visions but he also explains his approach to the photographic artistry itself. "I worship the single-minded effort that still photography embodies," he says, "the challenge, the solitary immersion in an animal's world and the reward that are often found in such an adventure." Other titles in the "Discovery" series include: "Vanishing Africa" (88 544 0006 8); "Marco Polo" (88 544 0005 X); and "Pilgrimage" (88 544 0079 3).
