Utterson investiga la extra�a relaci�n entre su viejo amigo, el Dr. Henry Jekyll, y el mis�ntropo Edward Hyde. El Dr. Jekyll es un cient�fico que ha creado una poci�n que tiene la cualidad de separar la parte m�s humana del lado m�s mal�fico de una persona. Cuando Jekyll bebe esta mezcla se convierte en Edward Hyde, un criminal capaz de cualquier atrocidad. Seg�n se cuenta en la novela, en nosotros siempre est�n el bien y el mal juntos, por eso Hyde, s�mbolo de todo lo perverso, resulta repugnante a todo aquel que lo ve.
