Print on Demand. This book extracts letters written by John and Martha Yeardley, who voyaged to the Ionian Islands, Greece, Switzerland, Germany, and France, sharing their insights on local religious practices and disseminating Christianity through literature distribution. The letters provide a wealth of information on the state of religion and education in these regions during the 19th century, offering glimpses into prevailing beliefs, societal norms, and the challenges faced by missionaries. The authors engage in thought-provoking discussions on the nature of faith, the role of spirituality in daily life, and the importance of education in fostering religious understanding. Through their travels, the Yeardleys sought to bridge cultural divides, promote interfaith dialogue, and inspire spiritual growth in the communities they visited. Their experiences and observations offer valuable insights for modern readers seeking a deeper understanding of the complexities of religious practices, the power of faith, and the enduring impact of missionary work. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Biography and Autobiography
Md). We called on the Director of the Missionary House, a young man remarkable for his zeal and piety; we knew him in a fbrmer journey, and he soon recognized us as Christian friends, and introduced na to a pious Protestant lady, who spends much of her time in translating religious and useful books into French. She has also a class in the First-day School for instructing the children in the Scriptures. On asking for information respecting this class, and whether the mode of questioning was from books, she replied, no, it wouldbe useless for the children to repeat by rote merely, we want the great truths of the Gospel to sink into their hearts. Our introduction to this precious character was much to our comfort. And we were permitted to rejoice together in contemplating those things which the Lord has in mercy begun, and is carrying on in this great city. After this instructive interview we called on sister in-law to the late Deputy who was well known to many friends in England and America, on account of his admiration of some of our religious principles, and who was executed in the time of Robes pierre. She is a Roman Catholic, yet asked if she might attend our meetings, which was of course granted: she is desirous of 8 reading Friends' books and tracts, and we think she will be useful, in this respect, having much leisure and access to serious classes of her own profession.
