About this Item
Separately published map, previously folded horizontally and vertically, in good to very good condition. Splits along some folds mended, light stains at corners. Forts, roads and railroads are colored. Major land owners identified outside of the cities of Washington and Alexandria. Shows from Mt. Vernon in the south to Beltsville, Maryland in the north, Falls Church and Annandale in the west to 2-3 miles east of the District of Columbia. This was the last of three issues of this map, the first two of which showed only to the eastern corner of the District. It is also identifiable as the bottom right corner if blank below the symbol for the Engineering Corps. On the earlier issues, map information extended under this symbol. A rare and interesting map as it shows the locations of the forts around Washington near the end of the war as well as excellent detail in the Washington suburbs, both in Maryland to the north and Virginia to the west of the Potomac.
