Bridgman, Percy W., 1882-1961, (subject). Expressions of Appreciation as arranged in the order given at the memorial meeting for Professor Percy Williams Bridgman, October 24, 1961. no publisher, 1961, unpaginated, 24pp., small stapled PAPERBACK, very good. Statements by five of his friends at the memorial service for Percy Williams Bridgman (1882-1961), Memorial Church, Harvard University. Contributors: James B. Conant, Edwin C. Kemble, Robert E. Chandler, Edward M. Purcell, Gerald Holton. / Bridgman was a Harvard physicist who specialized in high temperature and high pressure experimental physics; he was also known for his studies in the philosophy of science, particularly the "operationalism" introduced in his The Logic of Modern Physics (1927). Though not directly influenced by the logical positivists: "historian of science Gerald Holton has argued that Bridgman was a crucial figure in the 1940s and 1950s, linking positivism and the Vienna Circle with a group of influential thinkers in the Harvard-Cambridge area that included Philipp FRANK, W. V. QUINE, Norbert WIENER, Richard VON MISES, Roman Jakobson, and others.".…
