RYLE, J C., D.D. (1816 -1900) Bishop of Liverpool. Expository Thoughts on the Gospels : For Family and Private Use. With the Text Complete and many Explanatory Notes. St. Luke (2 volumes complete). London : Chas J Thynne, [1914]. 8vo. 390, 391-922 pp. Uncommon earlier edition. First published in 1856. Original dark, blind-stamped covers with gilt title. Clean and sound. Contents clean, crisp and unmarked. Attractive and treasured volumes! "We prize these volumes. They are diffuse, but not more so than family reading requires. Mr Ryle has evidently studied all the previous writers upon the Gospels, and has given forth an individual utterance of considerable value". - C.H. Spurgeon.
