[8], xxiv, 396 p. 32 cm. Full leather with blank impressing. Rebacked with new edges and corners. Hinges repaired internally. Ink notations on rear pastedown, title page, and last page of dedication. Occasional small ink notations or marks. Edges repaired pp. 171-173 and repaired tear at bottom of p. 169. Tear at bottom of p. 81 not affecting text. Stained bottom corners up to p. xviii and some faint stains to top corners. Some thumbing to pp. 6-11. Remains a neat, clean book overall. Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715) was Bishop of Sarum, also known as Salisbury or New Sarum. He was highly respected as a cleric, a preacher, and an academic, as well as a writer and historian. Always closely associated with the Whig party, he was one of the few close friends in whom King William III confided, hence the dedication to the king in this volume. Seller Inventory # 115381
