About this Item

Trillat, Joseph, introd. L'Exposition Coloniale de Paris. Paris: Librairie des Arts Decoratifs (A. Calavas), n.d. [1931]. [8]p text and captions + 54 large collotype photos, all loose in gold board portfolio with ties. Boards rubbed; scattered foxing to plate fore-edges and margins. The photos, by Chevojon, are very good. ** Photographic record of the large and popular colonial exposition that displayed to the world the cultures of the French colonies and addressed, in its way, issues of colonialism. The large detailed photos show the villages and buildings that were reproduced, peoples in native dress, pavilions, etc. Focuses on southeast Asia, Oceania, and Africa, but other nations participated, and the photo of the large model of Mount Vernon comes as a surprise. The exposition influenced design and cuisine in Paris. Shipping/handling may be extra; please keep this in mind when ordering. Bookseller Inventory # 5704

Store Description

I¿ve been selling and appraising GOOD HORSE AND ART BOOKS since 1973, first by mail as Blue Rider Books, and since 1983 in the full-time open shop that I share with H.L. Mendelsohn (whose books are also on ABE). We¿d love to have you visit the second-oldest secondhand bookshop in Cambridge, just outside Harvard Square (open Tuesday-Saturday noon to 6, or by appointment). If you can¿t make it, go to www.bledsoebooks.com for many (but by no means all) of my books. My inventory of new, used, and rare equestrian books is one of the largest in the U.S., with special depth in Paul Brown, 19th-century books, dressage, and ephemera (paper items). I love to seek out the obscure, the uncommon, and the overlooked. Harvey Mendelsohn and I also offer a room full of out-of-print scholarly titles on the fine and applied arts, especially art history, architecture and planning, book arts, gardens, 20th-century ceramics, photography, and exhibition catalogues. And you¿ll also find some children¿s books, cookbooks, titles in cultural history and philosophy, and other general books. Many of our books never make it online, so if you¿re looking for items you don¿t see here, please phone or e-mail. Then maybe you, too, like hundreds of happy customers over the years, will say, ¿You have it? YOU¿VE MADE MY DAY!¿
