Exploring Missouri River Country by Don Pierce, published by Farcountry Press, is a guide to the history, scenic highlights, and points of interest along the Missouri River, specifically focusing on the Montana region. Key themes and content include: A historical and scenic guide: The book offers a tour of the Missouri River, highlighting its geographical features like bluffs, canyons, and plains. Lewis and Clark Expedition: It retraces the path of the Corps of Discovery along the Missouri, describing their journey through the uncharted territory. Native American tribes: The book covers the history of the various Native American tribes, including the Blackfeet Nation, who hunted and lived along the river. Regional focus: While other books cover the entirety of the Missouri River, this book specifically details the segment of the river that flows through Montana. It describes notable locations such as the site of Fort Benton and other landmarks of interest to visitors. Modern conservation: The book also touches on the importance of the river for current environmental efforts and its vital role as a waterway.
