Research shows that the sharing of personal, first-hand stories not only enhances learning and eases the transition to a new role, but also helps novice educators understand that their challenges are shared by others. With the goal of improving the experience of nurses transitioning from clinician to educator, in hospitals as well as schools of nursing, this unique book presents the stories of nurses who made this transition. It presents the findings of several qualitative studies addressing the question, "What is the lived experience of clinicians as they assume new roles as clinical nurse educators?" Jeanne Merkle Sorrell, PhD, FAAN, RN has taught at undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels of nursing for over 20 years. She initiated the concept of a Nurse Academy at George Mason University, USA and co-taught it with Dr. Cangelosi. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and currently is a Senior Nurse Scientist at the Cleveland Clinic, where she assists health care professionals with the design of qualitative and quantitative research projects. Dr. Sorrell has implemented several funded research studies and has extensive experience in phenomenological research. She has carried out research in composition, taught a variety of writing courses, and is a Teacher/Consultant for the Northern Virginia Writing Project, USA. Dr. Sorrell has been author or co-author/editor for 12 books, written over 100 articles for peer-reviewed journals, and currently serves as Department Editor for two journals.

Pamela Rubel Cangelosi, PhD, MSN, RN has taught for over 20 years at the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels of nursing and is a Fellow in the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education. She is currently the Associate Dean for Academics at Shenandoah University, USA, where she has primary responsibility for maintaining academic integrity of all nursing programs. Dr. Cangelosi also teaches online and land-based graduate nursing courses. She has been the Principal Investigator for several funded nursing education research studies and has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals. She is a peer reviewer for several journals and mentors students and nurses in writing for publication.
