Early collection from William Russell (1806-1876), here writing under two of his pseudonyms, Waters and Inspector F. Russell was one of the first to write in and popularize the detective fiction genre. This collection originally published in 1862, the title page on this copy bearing the date of 1863. Hubin pg 139. 12mo, 252pp. Contemporary half calf, red spine label lettered in gilt, marbled boards. Former owner's inscription to ffep and dated 1866, else clean internally. Some rubbing along joints and corners. Near fine. Seller Inventory # 5053
