About this Item
One of Grasset's iconic images, a poster for the Grafton Galleries first exhibition of French decorative art in late1893, the year the Grafton Gallery opened at 8 Grafton St., London. The lithographic poster depicts a woman in a field picking flowers. Grasset worked as a book illustrator and poster designer in Paris towards the end of the 19th century. The French art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel showed the first major exhibition in Britain of Impressionist paintings there in 1905. Roger Fry's two famous exhibitions of Post-Impressionist works in 1910 and 1912 were both held at the gallery.
