MEDITATIONS ON THE PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SPIRITUAL, AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF JESUS
In EXCEPTIONAL LIVING, Dr. David Corbin invites us to consider living like Jesus. He contends, “Jesus became like us so that we might become like Him”. This is a study of Luke 2:52, explaining how Jesus grew mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially. For us, such growth requires a lifelong commitment to learning and maturing. This process of maturation will take us from Jesus’ incarnation to our transformation.
After decades of friendship and partnership in ministry, Dr David Corbin has successfully balanced his spirituality and his scholarship. You’ll see this as you read these pages. Follow in the footsteps of Jesus as he grew up in an ordinary Jewish family, before he began his public ministry. This book helps us to identify with the humanity of Jesus, and gives us a pattern of personal development we should all emulate.
Dr Erwin Lutzer
Pastor Emeritus, Moody Church, Chicago, U.S.A.
In this study, Dr Corbin’s approach is exegetically engaging in the extensive deep dive into the sitz em leben of the first-century Palestinian context. He brings to bear ancient sources such as Josephus, providing a rich and insightful perspective, along with intertextual cross-referencing such as similar framing used to describe the early life of Samuel the prophet (1 Samuel 2:26). Dr Corbin engages with the original language while avoiding a common pitfall of absolutizing a Greek word’s meaning since a word’s meaning is primarily derived from what it means in context. Furthermore, the reader will encounter an engagement with a wide variety of premiere biblical sources.
Pastor Jeff Robinson, Ph.D.
