Print on Demand. This book is an examination of the first message to Congress by President Thomas Jefferson. The author analyzes the public statements of the president and the actions taken during his first months in office to challenge their internal consistency and the violation of foundational principles and ideals of the newly formed country. The author contends that Jefferson used divisive rhetoric that sowed partisan discord while simultaneously championing unity and conciliation and that the ideals Jefferson publicly espoused were violated in his actions against political opponents. This book provides a thought provoking look at what the author believes is a hypocritical start to the presidency of Thomas Jefferson. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.
