Item description from seller

A more complete edition. Octavo (7 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches; 188 x 111 mm). [4], 726, [56, tables] pp. With publisher's advertisement and 56 pages of "more compleat and exact table than was before." We could only find one copy of this 1704 edition at auction. Early full calf. Boards double ruled and tooled in blind. Board edges stamped in gilt. Cracking along front and back outer joints but holding firm. Top of spine with some chipping. Boards lightly rubbed and bumped. Previous owner's armorial bookplate on front paste down. Some early ink ownership notes to front pastedown. The first half of the text's leaves are a bit toned, but the second half is very clean. Overall a very good copy. "This book, originally compiled in 1642 by parliamentarian, legal scholar, and mathematician Edmund Wingate summarizes the statutes of England and Wales by subject. New editions continued to be published after his death in 1656, including this one in 1704." (Willam and Mary Law School). "First published in 1642, Wingate's Exact Abridgment offered a shorter alternative to the lengthy compilations of Rastell and Pulton. A standard work, it was updated and reissued several times. Its final edition appeared in 1708." (The Law Book Exchange) ESTC T145387. HBS 69313. $1,000.…
