Print on Demand. This book examines the significant evolution of Germany in the latter half of the 19th century. The author notes how Germany's shift in focus from an inward concentration on ideals of philosophy and literature towards a relentless pursuit of economic power and world influence has created a modern spirit within the nation. The author laments the diminished idealism that has accompanied Germany's rise to material success, while acknowledging the nation's impressive command over the physical world. The book offers a nuanced perspective on the transformation of German culture and provides valuable insights into the motivations and aspirations that have shaped the nation's identity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

- Political Theory and History
How farms, factories, and government policy shaped Imperial Germany
A thorough look at how agriculture and industry influenced the nation’s economic and political development, from rural life to industrial power.
This book analyzes the delicate balance between farming and industry, showing how policy choices, economic forces, and social change interacted to form Germany’s modern economy. It surveys topics from agricultural reform and rural life to the rise of the industrial order, the role of education and technical training, and the impact of trade, protection, and state efforts on national growth. Readers will see how policy makers sought to protect farmers while fostering industrial expansion, and how these tensions helped define Germany’s political landscape.
- Strategies for maintaining agricultural prosperity alongside rapid industrial growth
- The agrarian movement, land ownership, and the politics of protectionism
- The development of infrastructure—railways, canals, and ports—and their effect on trade
- How education, labor relations, and social policy influenced economic change
Ideal for readers of economic and social history who want a clear picture of Germany’s transition to a modern economy.
