A young man declared insane by the machinations of his own mother. This book sows the seeds of stream of consciousness writing and of all that was to come in the best of twentieth-century fiction. It is deliberately experimental – and quite genuinely ‘impressionist’.
The young author died only weeks after its publication.

About the Author
Walter Ruding was an English author born on November 30, 1870, at Hawkhurst Lodge in Sydenham, South London. The son of a retired bank manager, he attended the historic Christ's Hospital school and worked briefly as an insurance clerk before pursuing a literary path. His promising career was tragically cut short when he died of typhoid fever at the age of 25 in December 1895, just weeks after publishing his singular impressionist novel, An Evil Motherhood.
