- Book 2 of 3: Everything’s Better with Bacon, and You Can Never Have Enough Butter (But Then Along Comes Karma…) THE FIRST CHILD
We live in a world where loving some animals and consuming others is considered perfectly reasonable. We cradle dogs, adore cats, and scroll endlessly through cute animal videos — while rarely questioning the systems that confine, exploit, and slaughter billions of equally sentient beings. Why? Because it’s tradition? Because it’s convenient? Because “that’s just how it is”?
In The Other Child, the moral lines we take for granted begin to blur. Through fictionalized depictions of factory farming and a world that slowly reveals its own contradictions, the story asks uncomfortable questions:
- What if the hierarchy we place on species were turned on us?
- What if karma wasn’t abstract, but personal?
- Who decides which lives matter?
- How do ordinary people become complicit?
If you’ve ever loved an animal…
If you’ve ever questioned the status quo…
If you’re willing to sit with discomfort in order to examine truth…
Book 2 deepens the moral and emotional stakes of the series and continues the exploration of how humans justify the unjustifiable.
“A Bold, Unforgettable Dive into a Chaotic Dystopian World –This isn’t just another dystopian tale—it’s a sharp, satirical collision of humor, heartbreak, and sharp cultural insight. Goldsholl blends political critique, surreal elements, and off-beat wit with a confidence that makes the story feel both unpredictable and strangely grounded. Despite its darkness, there’s a current of hope that keeps you turning pages. It’s the kind of book that lingers in your mind, nudging you to think long after you’ve finished reading.”
“Dark, Bold, and Brilliantly Satirical – …a wild, thought-provoking ride through a dystopian America that feels uncomfortably close to reality…. A smart, fearless continuation of a truly original series.”
“An even more intense and courageous second part. Goldsholl raises the bar with a perfect blend of dark fantasy and social criticism. Cutter City is a brutal reflection of modern reality: racism, violence, and political manipulation. Harsh, intelligent, and deeply human. A reading that makes you uncomfortable... and awakens you.”
“A Wild Ride Through Chaos, Courage, and Just Enough Weirdness – This book is like if The Hunger Games went to an art school, took a philosophy class, and then joined a late-night comedy show. It’s dark, clever, and somehow still manages to make you laugh right after making you cringe at humanity. I loved the unpredictable mix of animals, politics, and poetic absurdity. It’s the kind of story where karma wears steel-toed boot, and you can’t look away. Disturbing, hilarious, and weirdly hopeful.”
“Brutal Satire That Hits Too Close to Home – “Brutal Satire That Hits Too Close to Home – Goldsholl doesn't pull punches in depicting a dystopian America where white nationalism runs rampant and mass shootings barely make news. The satirical portraits of politicians and commissioners are grotesquely funny yet chillingly recognizable. While the fantasy elements with the Deor factions continue to drive the plot, it's the unflinching social commentary that makes this both a gripping read and a mirror to our current reality.”
“Gripping and Relevant – This book masterfully blends sharp social commentary with dark, unforgettable fantasy. It pits hope against cruelty in a world frighteningly close to ours. The vivid characters and moral complexity stay with you, challenging your views long after. A brilliant, unsettling story that’s as thought-provoking as it is beautifully crafted.”
