Paperback. Ever wondered what "Evangelical" Christianity is all about and what sets it apart from all the rest who claim to be Christians? Here's a look, with an outsider's view in mind, at the basics of what makes evangelicals unique. It explains why most non-Christians have regarded their Christian friends as "a little crazy" and examines the repeated cycle of loss of identity and re-emergence of the movement over time. Sachau looks into how and why so many different Christian denominations developed with evangelicals as a sub-set within them, and where modern evangelicalism may be heading. Throughout, he defends the idea that what makes evangelicals seem so odd, is and always has been, at the heart of the authentic Christian message. Larry Sachau served for 30 years as an evangelical pastor of both rural and urban congregations in one of America's largest main-line denominations. During that time, he also traveled extensively as a guest speaker for Bible Conferences and special services in congregations ranging from Lutheran to Mennonite and Quaker. He served as Senior Pastor for congregations in two state capitals and retired from a church with over 2200 members. He holds a BA degree in Sociology from the University of Northern Iowa, a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and pursued advanced studies at the Menninger Foundation. He and his wife Renee enjoy travel, trout fishing, collector cars and caring for their acreage in Oklahoma. This item is printed on demand.
