Print on Demand. This book thoroughly dissects the complexities of disposable pallet systems for shipping and handling fresh produce. The author examines issues such as cost, durability, environmental impact, and the search for a suitable alternative to traditional wooden pallets. Through rigorous testing and industry evaluation, the author explores the performance of various disposable pallets, including corrugated fiberboard, plastic foam, and wirebound wooden designs. The book also delves into the challenges of integrating disposable pallets into existing supply chains, including concerns about moisture damage and compatibility with pallet racks. Ultimately, the author concludes that while disposable pallets offer potential advantages in terms of cost and waste reduction, their widespread adoption depends on overcoming these challenges and meeting the specific needs of the produce industry. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

A pallet must also be immune to damage from low temperatures and moisture to be suitable for handling and shipping fruits. However, the moisture prob lems are not so severe for most fruits such as oranges and apples, as they are for many fresh vegetables such as celery and lettuce.
The conclusions of a group of shippers who observed the testing are included to give an indication of industry opinions on the various pallets.
