About the Author: Nigel Dower is Honorary Senior Lecturer in Philosophy in the University of Aberdeen where he taught from 1967 to 2004, and an academic consultant (cosmopolitan agendas exploring ethics in a globalised world). For the last twenty five years he has specialised in applying ethical reflection to world issues such as world poverty, development, the environment, international relations, global citizenship, human rights and war and peace. Apart from the books referred to above, he has published widely in these areas, and also edited with John Williams A Critical Reader on Global Citizenship (EUP 2002). He is the Editor of the Edinburgh Studies in World Ethics, was President of the International Development Ethics Association from 2002 to 2006, and has take up visiting professorships in the USA, Iceland and Belgium. He received an Honorary Degree from the University of Uppsala in 2007 for his work on global ethics and related issues.
