The author argues that while drama has the power to uplift and inspire, it has too often been used to promote immorality and vice. The book examines the historical evolution of drama, from its role in ancient religious ceremonies to its current state as a commercialized entertainment industry. The author provides insightful commentary on the impact of drama on society, exploring the ways in which it can both reflect and shape cultural values. Through extensive research and analysis, the author uncovers the profound ethical dilemmas that have plagued drama throughout history, shedding new light on the complex relationship between art and morality. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

In the earliest times the sexes were not allowed to mingle on the stage in the main parts of the role, but after a time this restriction was disregarded.
The stages upon which the early tragedies were enacted were in the open air, and the times were, for the most part, on the great calendar and feast days, and at times of great national rejoicings. On many of these occasions whole weeks were necessary to complete the play, so numerous and elaborate were the details to be observed.
