A reprint, with some changes, from 'The Works of Alexander Pope' Vol II (1735), published by L. Gilliver.ESTC No.T5482.Bound in full speckled calf.This volume includes Epistles such as 'An Essay on Man', 'Of the Knowledge and Characters of Men', 'Of the Characters of Women' and 'Of the Use of Riches', Satires including 'Horace Imitated' and 'Satires of Dr. John Donne' and is finished with ten of his Epitaphs, followed by notes.Alexander Pope was a prominent English poet, translator and satirist of the Enlightenment era, best known for works including The Rape of the Lock, The Dunicad and An Essay on Criticism. His Essay on Man (first published between 1732-1734) attempts to "vindicate the ways of God to Man" and assumes that man has fallen and must seek his own salvation.Register: [A2], B-Q6, R2. Collated, complete. Bound in full speckled calf.Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and loss to the head of the spine. Slight cracking to the joints, but remaining firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned, but generally clean, with a few contemporary ink inscriptions to the front and rear endpapers. Occasional spots. Good. Seller Inventory # 986Y8
