During Origins, Dredd discovered a mutant branch of his own bloodline. For the lawman, it brought home the injustice inherent in Justice Department’s Mutant policies. He believes that those unfortunates warped by the legacy of the Atomic Wars deserve to be treated with more humanity, as they are currently forbidden entry into Mega-City One, and exiled to facilities and townships in the irradiated wasteland. But Dredd’s support of Mutants may see him join them to live out the rest of his life in The Cursed Earth.
The stories collected in this volume affect the Dredd’s world for years to come, and features work by writers John Wagner (A History of Violence), Robbie Morrison (The Authority), Al Ewing (The Immortal Hulk) and artists Carlos Ezquerra (Preacher), Kev Walker (Star Wars), Patrick Goddard (Rogue Trooper), John Higgins (Watchmen), John Haward (Tales of Telguuth) and Mike Collins (Doctor Who).
About the Authors
Carlos Ezquerra was the co-creator of Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Rat Pack, Major Eazy and many other fan-favourite characters, he designed the classic original Dredd costume as well as visually conceptualising Mega-City One. In addition to these credits he also illustrated A.B.C. Warriors, Judge Anderson, Tharg the Mighty, and Cursed Earth Koburn amongst many other stories. Outside of the ‘Galaxy’s Greatest Comic’, Ezquerra illustrated the first Third World War episodes in Crisis magazine, and became a regular collaborator with Garth Ennis, working on Adventures in the Rifle Brigade, Bloody Mary, Just a Pilgrim, Condors, The Magnificent Kevin and two special Preacher episodes. He died in 2018 but his profound influence on the world of comic art cannot be overstated.. Kev Walker is the co-creator of Badlands and The Balls Brothers, and has also provided artwork for Dan Dare, Judge Dredd, Future Shocks, Harlem Heroes, Mercy Heights, Rogue Trooper, Time Twisters and Tor Cyan. For the Judge Dredd Megazine, he wrote The Inspectre and has illustrated Judge Anderson, Mean Machine and Wynter. Walker has recently finished an acclaimed run on DC’s L.E.G.I.O.N. and has pencilled Marvel Comics’ The Eternal.. Patrick Goddard’s clean art style has graced many strips in the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. Co-creator of the Megazine series Wardog, he has penciled Judge Dredd, Mean Machine, Middenface McNulty, Sinister Dexter and took over the art duties on Savage from Charlie Adlard.. John Higgins is a multi-talented 2000 AD artist and writer; as well as scripting a Future Shock and Judge Dredd, Higgins has illustrated Chopper, Freaks, One-Offs, Tharg the Mighty and Time Twisters. His work outside the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic is also highly respected, and he has contributed to some of the most important series of recent times, including working as a colourist on the modern superhero classic Watchmen, and on Vertigo’s Animal Man, Hellblazer and Pride and Joy.. Mike Collins is the illustrator and co-creator of American Gothic. He has also worked on Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper Sinister Dexter, Sláine and several Future Shocks.
John Wagner has been scripting for 2000 AD for more years than he cares to remember. His creations include Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Ace Trucking, Al’s Baby, Button Man and Mean Machine. Outside of 2000 AD his credits include Star Wars, Lobo, The Punisher and the critically acclaimed A History of Violence.
Robbie Morrison is one of 2000 AD’s most popular writers, having co-created The Bendatti Vendetta, Shakara, Shimura and Vanguard, as well as being one of the select few writers to have chronicled the adventures of Judge Dredd in 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine. He is also co-creator of fan-favourite strip Nikolai Dante, which won an Eagle award for ‘Best Character’ in 2002, beating Judge Dredd to this accolade for the first time in almost twenty years. In the US, he has written Spider-Man’s Tangled Web for Marvel and The Authority for DC/WildStorm. His and artist Charlie Adlard’s critically acclaimed graphic novel White Death has also been hugely successful in both Europe and the US.
Al Ewing has been a Judge Dredd aficionado since the age of nine, and is best known in the UK for his work on Dredd in 2000 AD, where he also co-created Zombo and Damnation Station. In addition, Ewing has written various novels for Solaris and Abaddon Books, including The Fictional Man, Pax Omega and Gods of Manhattan, and is currently writing Mighty Avengers and Loki: Agent of Asgard for Marvel Comics.
