xiii 303 pages, old tape mark to inner blank margin of 1/2 title and the original end paper. End papers browning to edges, sporting book plate to front paste down, contemporary ownership name to FEP Mr Mathaby, Banbrough, Northumberland, to verso front blank "G Weatherly Bundle 12 Aug 1835". Original full calf boards with later matching spine with original title label. The scarce 1st edition taken from the French of Magne de Marolles 1781, containing the various methods of forging, boring, and dressing gun barrels practiced in France, Spain and England and the different proofs of barrels employed in those countries, with remarks. An investigation of the causes of recoil, and of bursting with proposals for preventing or remedying an enquiry into the effects of the length of bore, and charge upon the range etc of the pieces and remains upon the articles of powder, shot wading etc. Chute 002 (very scarce) Schwerdt Vol 1 2pp, Riling 311.
