Niko is 18, desperate, and trapped in a city where corruption rules and choices are an illusion. His only way out? A brutal, high-stakes motorcycle race—one that ends at the very edge of a 40-story rooftop. If his brakes fail, so does he. If he wins, wealth, power, and a girl of his choice are his. But the girl he wants isn’t on the approved list, and the so-called prize comes with chains, not freedom. In a world where everything is rigged, Niko must decide: play their game or risk everything for a chance at something real. Such are the choices in a city-state where corruption permeates everything and there is no escape. Or is there?
Readers' Reviews
Readers of any age will eagerly devour, Escape To Zendara which explores an age-old question: Can love survive when the world is falling apart? Niko and El are little more than children when they meet, already victims and survivors of a dystopian system that constantly pits one human against another. This is a compelling and highly detailed world that includes not only the young lovers, struggling to keep their hearts and hope alive, but also a wide array of fascinating characters. A lot of world building and the author does a fantastic job with great level of detail that sucks you right in yet feels a bit familiar. An engaging kick-off to what could be a dynamic series!
Kim Wright, Recipient of the Willie Morris Award for Southern Fiction, is the author of Love in Mid Air, The Unexpected Waltz, The Canterbury Sisters, and Last Ride to Graceland.
Escape To Zendara is an enthralling dystopian novel peopled with heart-tugging characters and a can’t-put-down plot. It's a tale of touching inner goodness pitted against a heartless society. About capture and escape. And in the end, about love.
Jennie Fields, author of The Age of Desire and Atomic Love
With her sharp storytelling skills, Alexander takes the reader on a blood-curdling ride through a post-apocalyptic world where no one is safe. And yet, for all of its astonishing twists, turns and futuristic touches, the novel speaks directly to what we face today with our truth-failing government, and the need for an unlikely hero to arise.
Lary Bloom is an author, columnist, editor, teacher. He authored the definitive biography, Sol LeWitt: A Life of Ideas. His columns have appeared in the New York Times among others, and he has taught writing at Yale, Fairfield University, Trinity College and Wesleyan University.
