Escape from Bubbleworld represents a radical new approach to sustainability. Covering cutting edge thinking in evolutionary biology, ecology and genetics, this book is packed with modern biology. Written in a unique style, it combines humour and poignancy as it sweeps from Easter Island through to a beach in Scotland, and from global economics to product design. We meet an amnesiac squirrel and a man who built his house on the back of four elephants. We discover why waving your false teeth in the air can save your life and why we've got conservation all wrong. Combining philosophy, history, social science and ecology, Escape from Bubbleworld is a detective story, searching for the answers that can save the human race from disaster, and finding them!
The Biosphere has been cruelly assaulted by our efforts to maintain hugely expensive lifestyles and a bloated population. We have unleashed the three great horsemen of this modern apocalypse, climate change, habitat destruction and pollution. Extinction rates are two hundred times higher than background, the ozone layer has been depleted by fifty percent and skin cancer rates are soaring. Yet we carry on regardless. How can we possibly ignore the dire consequences of our activities?
Welcome to Bubbleworld. Bubbleworld is a place of isolation, selfishness, distorted thinking and artificial reality. Separated from our original context, as part of a balanced biosphere, we have lost our way and turned to ourselves for solutions. This book explores how we ended up in Bubbleworld, and brings a positive message: we can escape!
Using seven key graphs to explore how the rest of the planet works, Skene explains how we can rediscover sustainability within a new context, or, rather, one that we used to know well. He sets out a new philosophy for conservation, sustainability, design and resilience, one that celebrates balance, flow and diversity. It's not too late to escape from Bubbleworld!

Store description
In 2002, World of Books Group was founded on an ethos to do good, protect the planet and support charities by enabling more goods to be reused. Since then, we've grown into to a global company pioneering the circular economy. Today, we drive the circular economy through three re-commerce brands: - Wob: Through Wob, we sell. We provide affordable, preloved books and media to customers all over the world. A book leaves our collection of over seven million titles and begins a new chapter every two seconds, enabling more goods to be reused. - Ziffit: Through Ziffit, we buy. We give people around the world the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy, earn money and protect the planet, by trading their unwanted books and media. - Shopiago: Through Shopiago, we help others. By sharing the technology that has grown World of Books Group into the business it is today, we’re helping charities increase revenue and reduce waste through re-commerce.…
