Ernst Scheidegger (1923-2016) was one of the most important Swiss photographers of the 20th century. His photographic artist portraits made him internationally famous. In particular, the recordings of Alberto Giacometti in the Paris studio or in the Bergell characterise our image of this artist to this day.
On the occasion of the 100th Birthday of Ernst Scheidegger, the founder of our publisher, on 30 November 2023 and accompanying exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Zürich and in MASI Lugano, the book Ernst Scheidegger appears. Photographer It is based on an extensive reappraisal of his photographic estate and takes a fresh and contemporary look at this multi-layered work. A concise selection of iconic and lesser-known shots depicts Scheidegger's portrait and artist photography.
In addition, the book invites you to the discovery of Scheidegger's previously little-published early work and thus takes a reassessment of his work. Texts by Tobia Bezzola, director of the MASI Lugano, by the photo historian Alessa Widmer, by Philippe Büttner, collection conservator at the Kunsthaus Zurich, and by Helen Grob, the long-time life partner Ernst Scheideggers, trace his career and his photographic self-image and round off this photo-affinely designed band.
