The Epistles of Paul

This keepsake edition of The Epistles of Paul was taken from the King James translation of the Bible. The King James Translation is a masterwork of style, and the most important book in the English language, it has been the driving force in shaping the English-speaking world for hundreds of years. Only the Gospels are more important to Christianity than The Epistles of Paul. Paul’s hand in shaping modern Christianity is undeniable. These letters have comforted and guided Christians for two thousand years full of practical and divine wisdom. In Romans Paul makes it clear that he is unashamed of his love for this gospel that he preaches about Jesus Christ. Paul says that a righteousness from God has made itself known and this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus to all who believe. Paul concludes that Christians are no longer bound by the law of Moses, but under the grace of God. Paul wrote this letter to correct what he saw as erroneous views in the Corinthian church. He urged uniformity of belief in Christian doctrine. Divisions within the church at Corinth seem to be a problem, and Paul makes it a point to mention these conflicts in the beginning of the letter. In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, he again refers to himself as an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God. He states the importance of forgiving others, and God’s new agreement that comes from the Spirit of the living God, and the importance of being a person of Christ and giving generously to God’s people. In Galatians Paul is primarily concerned with the controversy surrounding gentile Christians and the Mosaic Law during the Apostolic Age. Paul argues that gentiles do not need to adhere to the tenets of the Mosaic Law, particularly religious male circumcision, by contextualizing the role of the law in light of the revelation of Christ. Ephesians was written while Paul was in prison in Rome. Ephesians instructs the church to maintain unity in Christ and remain pure and holy, and to walk in love with Christ. Paul sends word to the Philippians of his upcoming sentence in Rome and of his optimism in the face of death along with exhortations to imitate his capacity to rejoice in the Lord despite one's circumstances. The Epistle to the Colossians declares Christ’ supremacy over the entire created universe and exhorts Christians to lead godly lives. In First Thessalonians Paul gives thanks for the news about the Thessalonians faith and love; he reminds them of the kind of life he lived while he was with them. He stresses how honorably he conducted himself, reminding them that he had worked to earn his keep, taking great pains not to burden anyone. Paul opens Second Thessalonians praising the church for their faithfulness and perseverance in the face of persecution. The letter continues by encouraging the Thessalonian church to stand firm in their faith. In First Timothy Paul writes to Timothy regarding his ministry in Ephesus. He counsels Timothy on the organization of the Church and the responsibilities resting on certain groups of leaders therein as well as exhortations to faithfulness in maintaining the truth amid surrounding errors. In Second Timothy Paul writes of endurance as the main quality for a preacher of the gospel. As a good soldier for Jesus Christ, he is to be pure, noble, and ready to take his share of suffering. Titus describes the requirements and duties of elders and bishops in the church. Philemon deals with the themes of forgiveness and reconciliation. Paul refers to himself as a prisoner of Jesus Christ. Hebrews opens with an exaltation of Jesus as the radiance of God’s glory, the express image of his being, and upholding all things by his powerful word. The book was written because some Christians had begun to doubt whether Jesus could really be the Messiah, because they believed the Messiah prophesied in the Hebrew Scriptures was to be a militant king and destroy the enemies of his people.
