From the library of Bishop Henry Benjamin Whipple, the first Episcopal bishop of Minnesota with his armorial bookplate on the front paste-down. The bishop was best known outside of Minnesota for his reform, welfare, and missionary work among the Dakota and Ojibwe. In addition to guiding legislation he helped 265 Dakotas obtain pardons from execution after the US Dakota War. 23 x 15 cm. Octavo. xxv 402pp. Two plates. Some toning to the paper. Ex-library copy with a label removed from spine and stamps on both sides of title page. Some unopened pages.
