Print on Demand. This book is a translation and revision of Benjamin Lewis Rice's 1886 collection of inscriptions gathered from the Coorg District, now in modern-day India. Rice's original work was the first in a series of volumes encapsulating stone and metal inscriptions that preserved the history of South India, and this updated compilation includes 32 previously unknown inscriptions and is the result of two new surveys undertaken for this project. Altogether, this revised edition contains 106 inscriptions, most of which can be assigned to specific dynasties or kings whose historical significance is discussed. This revised translation will be a valuable resource to students and researchers seeking to understand the history of Coorg and the broader context of South Indian history and culture. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

This shows how much more work still remains to be done in this direction. Undoubtedly, there is a need for a new comprehensive survey. This work has to be accomplished before these inscriptions, still in oblivion, finally disappear from the scene.
