Synopsis:

Enzymes of Epigenetics: Part B, one of two new volumes in the Methods in Enzymology series, continues the legacy of this premier serial with quality chapters authored by leaders in the field. This volume covers research methods that are employed in the study of epigenetic regulation, including structural, biochemical, molecular, biological, cellular, computational, and systems approaches. Topics include chromatin structure and histones, posttranslational histone modification enzymes and complexes, histone modification binders, DNA modifications and nucleic acid regulators, epigenetic technologies, and small molecule epigenetic regulators and biological connections.

About the Author: Dr. Marmorstein obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and, following a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University and a faculty appointment at The Wistar Institute, he joined the faculty at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Marmorstein is currently a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and an Investigator in the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute with adjunct appoints in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania and The Wistar Institute. The Marmorstein laboratory uses a broad range of molecular, biochemical and biophysical research tools centered on X-ray crystal structure determination to understand the chemical basis for the epigenetic regulation of gene expression. The laboratory is particularly interested in gene regulatory proteins and their upstream signaling kinases that are aberrantly regulated in cancer and other age-related disorders such as obesity and Alzheimer’s disease, and the use of high-throughput small molecule screening and structure-based design strategies towards the development of protein-specific small-molecule probes of protein function and for development into therapeutic agents.
