Print on Demand. This book sets out to examine the Pre-Raphaelite artists of the 19th century and their work. Starting with the main founders of the movement in Ford Madox Brown, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and William Holman Hunt, the book then discusses the members and associates of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, including Millais, Collinson, Deverell, Stephens, and William Michael Rossetti, before moving on to consider the wider circle of artists influenced by Pre-Raphaelitism, and how their art was manifested in paintings, decorative work, and sculpture. The book also traces the Pre-Raphaelite influence through the work of the second generation of artists, and considers the legacy of Pre-Raphaelitism in 20th century art. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

That the influence of the Brethren and their tenets is still felt among painters is Obvious to those who follow the course of art as apparent in exhibitions, in magazines, and in book illustrations; and, accordingly, among the illustrations to this new edition will be found a few, at least, of the most typical recent manifestations of Pre Raphaelism. Some of these pictures which it was intended to include have been, however, unavoidably omitted, owing to difficulties of various kinds which attended their reproduction.
