The publication announcement states "this is a book whose object is to demonstrate the enormous variety and evocative beauty of marbled papers, and their interpretation by craftsmen from different periods and cultures. Its aim is not to put forth a definitive historical survey or technical methodology, but rather to relate a series of contemporary hand-marbled papers to the accumulated heritage of patterns from the past." Chapters on technique, materials of marbling, and a bibliography on books for further reading is by Christopher Weimann and Susan Patron. Twenty-seven pages of text followed by twenty-six mounted pieces of actual marbled paper, including some originals from the seventeenth century, all with printed descriptions below the mounted paper, for example "11. English marblers were famous for this pattern from the early 19th Century." Spine very slightly sunned, minor scuffing, soiling to boards. Overall very good condition. Seller Inventory # 22689
