Print on Demand. This book is an extensive English-Malay dictionary that supersedes previous efforts to offer the most thorough and up-to-date vocabulary resource for both English and Malay students. In addition to offering Malay equivalents for the most common English words according to contemporary usage, it provides pronunciation guides for the listed Malay words and incorporates extensive dialectic variations from the different regions where Malay is spoken, including the Baba Malay dialect commonly used by Chinese in the Straits Settlements. Thematic depth is provided through usage examples, which highlight the different meanings of words in various contexts. For the first time in a dictionary of this kind, an innovative numbered system is used to indicate derivations for Malay root words, offering insight into their etymological roots. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The accomplishment of the author's original intention, which was to produce an english-malay Vocabulary containing some three or four thousand words, has been so long deferred through pressure of other literary work, that it has been thought better to abandon it altogether, especially in view of the fact that other vocabularies have appeared meanwhile which supply the need for a limited word list. The scope of the original work 'has therefore been greatly extended, with the object of producing not a mere Vocabulary but a Dictionary which would be as complete as possible.
