Item description from seller

A good second edition of this gardening poem, by the gardener William Mason, a long georgic poem that ponders on Whiggism and Anglicanism. The second edition of this work. Half-title and final leaf of publisher's adverts are present. Collated, complete. ESTC citation number T96182. 'The English Garden' is a long poem on gardening, published in four parts between 1772 and 1782. This georgic poem uses nature as a vehicle through which to embrace and support Whiggism and Anglicanism. Mason's work of this period criticised the English government, and their handling of the American War. William Mason was an English poet, with his 1747 publication of 'Musaeus' bringing him much acclaim. His best known and most popular work was 'Heroic Epistle to Sir William Chambers'. Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are very lightly age-toned, with only a couple of light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with only the odd light spot. Very Good Indeed.
