Le Blanc and Jacques-Eugène Armengaud, a French industrial engineer, and professor of machine drawing at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers.An instructional guide to the construction of technical drawings, with the preface explaining that it is published to supply 'Working Engineers' - those of the lower classes - as 'every person, in any way connected with the Mechanical Arts, ought to possess a knowledge of the principles and practice of drawing'.Illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title page, and sixty-five plates, including one colour plate. Collated, lacking four plates.Many of these plates feature designs and plans for railway stations and engines. In a half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Front board detached. Losses of leather to back strip head and tail, with rear joints starting and board tender. Internally, binding strained throughout, with text block tenderly held, and plates disbound and loosely inserted. Pages bright, with handling marks and the odd spot throughout. Lacking four plates. Folio, pp. viii, 116; inserted engraved title page, engraved frontispiece and 70 engraved plates (actually 68 plates as 2 are double-page), plus a chromolithograph; later half maroon calf over original terracotta cloth boards, gilt-lettered on upper cover; a very good, sound copy. Comprising linear drawing, projections, eccentric curves, the various forms of gearing, reciprocating machinery, sketching and drawing from the machine, projection of shadows, tinting and coloring, and perspective. First edition hard back binding recently rebound in heavy deep purple cloth covers, navy morocco and gilt title label to the spine, blind tooling to the perimeter edges of the front and rear boards. Folio. 15'' x 11''. Contains frontispiece (plate lvii), additional illustrated title page, title page, (viii), 116 printed pages of text with monochrome illustrations and geometric drawings throughout the text block, followed by 71 full-page (as called for) single-sided plates including one colour and many double-page. Foxing to the later pages and plates, two plates have well executed humorous colour illustrations to the verso. Just rebound leaving the volume sound and strong to handle and use.
