The Definitive Reference for Understanding Protestant Christianity in All Its Diversity
In an era of unprecedented religious pluralism, understanding the landscape of Protestant Christianity has never been more crucial. The Protestant Denominational Handbook offers the most comprehensive, systematic examination of Protestant traditions available today—combining rigorous academic scholarship with clear theological evaluation.
What Makes This Handbook Unique:
- Comprehensive Coverage: 35+ detailed chapters examining major denominations, independent movements, controversial sects, and heterodox groups
- Systematic Approach: Each tradition analyzed through identical framework—historical development, theological systems, worship practices, and contemporary status
- Orthodox Perspective: Clear evaluation of each movement against the Nicene Creed and the five solas of the Reformation
- Academic Rigor: Based on primary sources, original documents, and authoritative scholarship
- Accessible Writing: Complex theological concepts explained clearly for both scholars and informed laypersers
Detailed Coverage Includes:
HISTORICAL PROTESTANT TRADITIONS:
- Lutheran Churches—from Wittenberg to worldwide communion
- Reformed and Presbyterian Churches—Calvinist theology in practice
- Anglican Communion—via media between Rome and Reformation
- Methodist Churches—Wesleyan holiness and social witness
- Baptist Traditions—believer's baptism and congregational autonomy
- Anabaptist Movements—radical reformation and peace churches
MODERN EVANGELICAL MOVEMENTS:
- Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity
- Fundamentalist and Conservative Evangelical churches
- Non-denominational and Independent movements
- Contemporary worship and megachurch phenomena
ABERRANT AND HETERODOX GROUPS:
- Jehovah's Witnesses—Arian Christology and organizational authority
- Latter-day Saints (Mormons)—additional revelation and modified theology
- Seventh-day Adventism—sabbatarianism and investigative judgment
- Oneness Pentecostalism—modalistic monotheism
- Word of Faith movement—prosperity theology examined
Written for:
- Seminary students and theological scholars
- Pastors and church leaders
- Missionaries and cross-cultural workers
- Apologists and discernment ministries
- Informed laity seeking deeper understanding
- Anyone navigating Protestant denominational choices
Author's Approach:
Drawing on extensive research and primary sources, this handbook maintains scholarly objectivity in description while providing clear theological analysis from an orthodox Protestant perspective. Each tradition is treated with intellectual respect, even when significant doctrinal concerns are identified. The result is a reference work that serves both academic inquiry and practical discernment.
Why This Handbook Matters Now:
As Protestant Christianity continues to fragment and diversify, the need for careful theological discernment has never been greater. This handbook equips readers to:
- Distinguish between legitimate theological diversity and dangerous deviation
- Understand the historical roots of contemporary debates
- Evaluate new movements against historic Christian orthodoxy
- Navigate ecumenical relationships with wisdom and discernment
- Appreciate the richness of Protestant tradition while maintaining theological clarity
