Print on Demand. This book is a collection of primary source documents that shed light on the commercial life and practices of 17th-century Mainz, a prominent trading city in the Holy Roman Empire. The author presents a series of complaints issued by various sectors of the merchant community to the city's ruler, the Elector and Archbishop of Mainz, regarding various obstacles to trade. These obstacles included unfair tolls, restrictions on foreign merchants, and corruption among officials. The complaints offer a vivid glimpse into the challenges faced by merchants in this period and provide valuable insights into the functioning of urban economies in early modern Europe. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.
