Print on Demand. This book explores the medieval preoccupation with death and its significant impact on art and literature. Beginning with the Black Death, which killed up to half of Europe's population in the mid-1300s, an era was ushered in where the omnipresence of death permeated all aspects of culture. One of the most prominent expressions of this fascination was the Dance of Death, a motif that was reimagined across Europe in various forms, including paintings, poems, and woodcuts. This book delves into the historical context that led to the rise of this morbid but captivating motif, as well as its profound influence on European thought and creativity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

The Work here presented to the Reader is a Copy, with a small Variation noticed hereafter, as to the Cuts, and a Translation, as to the Letter Press, of one well known to the Curious by the Title of Imagines Mortis, or The Images of Death; which is reported to be in reality indebted for its Exigence to an Event that Boccace did but feign as the Occasion of writing his Decameron I mean the Calamity of a Plague: And its History is as follows.
