Ellie Elephant Wants to Be an Engineer

Ellie Elephant Wants to Be an Engineer is one of 26 titles of the series The Alphabet of Becoming.

The Alphabet of Becoming is a thoughtfully crafted A-Z series of children's books that explores curiosity, aspiration, and the many ways people contribute to the world around them.

Each book follows an animal character who is beginning to imagine who they might become - an artist, a baker, a scientist, a nurse, a writer, and many more. Rather than presenting careers as fixed outcomes or instructions, the stories focus on interest, effort, responsibility, and choice. The emphasis is not on what children should be, but on how curiosity and care can grow into meaningful paths over time.

For children, the series offers gentle, engaging introductions to a wide range of roles in society, encouraging imagination, confidence, and respect for different kinds of work. The stories are designed to support emotional awareness and independent thinking, helping young readers see possibility without pressure.

For parents, The Alphabet of Becoming provides a way to talk with children about interests, values, and aspirations without forcing early decisions. The books create space for conversation - about effort, kindness, fairness, and the idea that becoming someone in the world is a gradual and personal journey.

For teachers and educators, the series supports early literacy, vocabulary development, and social learning. The A-Z structure makes the books easy to integrate into classrooms, while the stories themselves invite discussion about community, responsibility, and the diversity of human roles. They work equally well for read-aloud sessions, thematic lessons, and independent reading.

Across all twenty-six titles, The Alphabet of Becoming treats children as thoughtful readers. It respects their intelligence, nurtures curiosity, and presents learning not as a race toward answers, but as an ongoing process of discovery.
