Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah is one of the great oratorios of the Romantic era, composed for SATB soloists, full chorus, orchestra, and organ. Perfect for choirs, conductors, and vocal students, this edition offers a complete and authoritative vocal score that serves both study and performance. It’s ideal for choral rehearsals, church performances, or academic use.
This New Novello Choral Edition, edited by Michael Pilkington, provides comprehensive performance notes, editorial markings, and interpretative suggestions to guide singers and directors alike. The text, originally compiled by Julius Schubring from the Lutheran Bible, is presented in both English and German, with William Bartholemew’s English translation and a German translation of Pilkington’s editorial commentary included.
Designed for clarity and precision, the score offers accurate notation, detailed dynamics, and clear layout for ease of rehearsal. Whether used in sacred concerts or academic choral studies, this edition helps musicians understand Mendelssohn’s musical intentions while fostering stylistic awareness and expressive phrasing. It’s a valuable resource for choirs seeking to perform or study one of the most inspiring works in the choral repertoire.
This edition also supports conductors with annotated performance tips that reflect both historical and practical insight, helping ensembles achieve authentic interpretation and unified tone.
Bring Music To Life. A timeless masterpiece for choral and orchestral musicians, Elijah continues to inspire singers and audiences with its emotional power and spiritual depth. Perfect for concert preparation, worship services, or as a collector’s choral reference.
