Elephant Theory: How Evolutionary Instinct Drives Political Divides

Why do political divides seem so deep and instinctual? Elephant Theory explains how the answer lies in our evolutionary makeup, not in logic or political theories. This groundbreaking book explores the idea that human brains function like a three-layer computer system-Survival Instinct, Group Morality, and Reasoning. It is our Group Morality Layer, which developed when we began living in social groups, that shapes our political beliefs and interactions. Conservatives and liberals diverge due to how they interpret this layer: conservatives focus on their own "herd," while liberals embrace diversity, welcoming other groups.

Inspired by Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind and Thomas Sowell's A Conflict of Visions, Elephant Theory delves into everything from populist movements (such as Donald Trump) and free speech to climate change and corporate decay. It examines why climate change is taken up with religious-like fervor by liberals, why conservatives are skeptical of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), and how this philosophy has contributed to the downfall of companies like Disney and franchises like Star Wars.

If you're curious about the evolutionary roots of political behaviors and want a fresh perspective on the issues that divide us, this little book is for you. It's an insightful, accessible read that will leave you questioning how much reason really guides our political decisions as opposed to instincts honed over millions of years.
