Print on Demand. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to basic concepts in geometrical optics, and delves into the fundamental groundwork of the subject. Geometrical optics is a method of studying optics based on geometrical principles, such as the law of reflection and refraction. The author provides an elementary understanding of geometrical optics through an exploration of primary and secondary sources of light, the concept of color as it pertains to light, and the ether hypothesis which theorizes the existence of a medium that transmits light waves. The book meticulously outlines the concept of rectilinear propagation of light, which describes how light travels in straight lines in a uniform medium and explores the concept of shadows and the formation of images using a pinhole camera and principles surrounding intensity of illumination. The book is a valuable resource for those interested in a solid foundation in geometrical optics and is a great choice for students and educators alike. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
