Nobel Laureate Donald Glaser's copy, with his name hand-written in ink on front free endpaper and also a spine label of his personal research library. For more books from Glaser's library, search using the keycode: GLSR. Glaser won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1961 for the invention of the Bubble Chamber. From the preface: "This book is based on lectures given by us over the past ten years in a two-quarter sequence course in Elementary Partial Differential Equations. [.] The book has two principal objectives: to provide students with the techniques necessary for the formulation and solution of problems involving partial differential equations in courses in other disciplines; and to prepare students for further study in partial differential equationss and linear analysis by furnishing a basis for "intuition" in these subjects, namely, a thorough familiarity with their simplest typical problems."
