How do people find each other? What keeps a group together, what endangers their continued existence? Raoul Schindler's interaction model on rank dynamics is considered an important cornerstone of group dynamics. Those who work in or with groups do well to get to know it in its original form, rather than relying on the multiple-diluted rendering in common specialist literature.
Christina Spaller and Andrea Tippe have reread Schindler's partly bulky and contradictory publications and translated them into an introduction that makes the practical utility of the model visible. Starting from its history of creation, they first introduce the two basic theses of rank dynamics. The first describes different stages and states of relationships within a group, the second takes into account the different positions, roles, and functions that their members occupy.
The practical part of the book is devoted to the application of the rank dynamics model. Here the central topics of consulting, coaching and organisational development are at the centre: observation, diagnosis, planning and intervention.
What you have always suspected about the dynamics in groups: here you can find it described and explained. At a time when democratic processes are questioned, the book has additional political significance.
