About this Item
A very good copy of this elusive study of the eighteenth century architecture of Bath. The book was published in a limited edition of 500, numbered, copies this being number 27 and its listed subscriber was Lieut. Col. Linley Blathwayt of Eagle House, Batheaston. Linley Blathwayts wife, Emily, was a strong supporter of the Suffragettes cause and Eagle House became known as the Suffragettes Rest because it gave refuge and support to those suffragettes upon their release from their prison ordeals. Famous visitors included the Pankhursts and Annie Kenney with whom it is alleged, Mary Blathwayt had a relationship. This copy has the bookplates of Linley Blathwayt and William Blathwayt, his son, as well as a pencilled note, dated 23rd May 1954 and probably written by Linley's daughter, suffragette Mary Blathwayt, referring to a change her father had made to the house in 1882. Internally very good in original pale blue boards with gilt title and vignette to top board and fading and minor wear to spine. T.E.G. Errata slips. One plate has a small (2mm) hole - see photos. The book weighs in at just under 3Kg so, if it is ordered from outside the UK, you may be asked to pay a supplement to the shipping fee. If this applies to you, kindly contact me, before ordering, for confirmation of total shipping cost. Seller Inventory # 001541
