G. Ebers' fascinating work of Egyptology, complete in two volumes bound in one, and illustrated profusely throughout. An important contribution to the field of Egyptology, this work offers a informed and expansive history of Ancient Egypt. Georg Ebers was born in Berlin in 1837. A novelist and a scholar in the field of Egyptology, Ebers contributed significant archaeological findings to his chosen field, the most impressive being the uncovering of a detailed medical papyrus. To this day it remains one of the most important examples of Egyptian papyrus ever discovered, and is also believed to be one of the oldest examples of medical documentation in the world. This work is translated from the original German into English by Clara Bell, as important translator of the 19th and 20th century. Fluent in several languages, including Norwegian and Russian, Bell is noted for her translation of the work of Henrik Ibsen as well as Georg Ebers. Profusely illustrated throughout with in-text illustrations, alongside additional plates. Written by an authority in the field, this work is ideal for anyone with an interest in this fascinating period of world history. Collated, incomplete. One plate missing from volume 1. In a full cloth binding. Externally smart. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, resulting in a split to the cloth, to the tail of the spine. Light creasing to the spine. Minor rubbing, also to the spine, as well as to the joints, boards and extremities. Small split front joint, with the cloth to the rear joint completely split, resulting in backstrip lifting from the text block. A small amount of cockling to the front board. Scratch to the rear board, resulting in a small amount of loss. Handling marks to the rear board. Front and rear hinges strained, and have become partially detached from the text block. Minor offsetting to the front and rear endpapers, with spotting to the rear pastedown and endpaper. There is also evidence of pencil marks to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are agetoned, with the odd spot throughout. Spots heavier to the rear of plates. Incomplete, with a missing plate to vol I, facing page 289. Good.…
