Item description from seller

Print on Demand. This book investigates the effects of crop sequence and tillage practices on water intake rates of Pullman silty clay loam and grain yields. The author presents findings from a six-year study conducted on the US Department of Agriculture's Southwestern Great Plains Research Center in Bushland, Texas. The study focused on determining how growing alfalfa and implementing different tillage practices impact water intake and grain yields. The author highlights that alfalfa increased intake rates for several years after being plowed under, with the highest rates observed in the second year following its removal. Additionally, deep-chiseling to a depth of 13 to 15 inches was found to increase intake rates for about four years after the tillage operation. These findings suggest that alfalfa and deep-chiseling can be effective practices for improving water intake in Pullman silty clay loam soils, a key consideration for farmers in the High Plains region of Texas and similar environments. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.
