With the network thinning, the impossible perception is going quiet. Then the truth dawns: the cubes were never vessels but templates: the alien mind's own architecture, grown from the only hundred humans close enough to carry it. The Effected weren't chosen to do a job. They were chosen to be watched. It's a test of what humanity would do to the people it feared. The verdict isn't in; that's why the presence is still here.An offer is coming, and a father whose gift is nearly gone must make the only case left; not that humanity is good, but that the distance between what it did and what it is remains a gap, rather than a wall. Some gifts are earned. The guest arrived. Now it wants to know what we'll do with what we were given.
The gift is fading. Drop by drop, the enhancement that rewrote a hundred lives is receding.
The verdict isn't in; that's why the presence is still here.
An offer is coming, and a father whose gift is nearly gone must make the only case left; not that humanity is good, but that the distance between what it did and what it is remains a gap, rather than a wall.
Some gifts are earned. Some are imposed. But some...you only receive by proving you won't destroy them.
The Offer is a story about being seen completely and still being found worth seeing.
